Key employer in Tønder

Australian bauxite exploration joint venture agreement signed

Hydro is entering into a joint venture with the Australian mining company United Minerals Corporation (UMC) with the intention of recovering bauxite and producing alumina in Kimberley, Western Australia. The agreement, which was signed in Oslo on Tuesday, gives Hydro a 75 percent share in the partnership.

Qatalum contract awarded to Hycast

Hycast AS of Sunndalsøra has signed a letter of intent worth NOK 217 million with FATA of Italy for the supply of casting equipment for the new aluminium plant to be built in Qatar. The agreement includes design and the supply of equipment for casting extrusion ingots and foundry alloys.

Libya investigations

As previously announced, Jan Fougner of the Oslo law firm Wiersholm is heading the investigation of the previous Libya-portfolio, which Hydro acquired from Saga Petroleum in 1999 and transferred to StatoilHydro through the merger of October 1 2007. The US law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP is assisting with US aspects of the investigation.

Foil business unit invests EUR 6 million in the environment

Hydro has installed a new state-of-the-art air washer at its rolled products plant in Grevenbroich, Germany. Some 32 metres high and weighing 66 tonnes, the washer is the biggest element in a EUR 6 million investment in new air-cleaning technology, and a key milestone in upgrading the plant's Series 2 production facility for ultra-thin aluminium foil.

Completing Ormen Lange, going forward with impressive project organization

Concerning Hydro’s previous Libya engagement

Norsk Hydro ASA today contacted the Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime in the light of preliminary investigations indicating that the company may have utilized a previously mentioned consultancy company, in connection with petroleum operations in Libya, more actively than initially assumed.

Thousands of Hydro employees arrived at work in a “new” company on Monday morning. At the office premises in the Oslo area, they were greeted with coffee, hot chocolate and freshly baked buns. In the rest of the company, too, the fact that Hydro is now to focus completely on aluminium was marked in various ways.

Hydro terminates stock option scheme
