He is also Vale’s Executive Director of Base Metals Operations in Brazil. He has been a member of the company’s Board of Directors since 2006 and was previously responsible for Corporate Affairs and Energy, and Non-Ferrous Metals.
He joined Vale in 1985, holding various functions in the financial area until 1999, when he was appointed Director of the Finance Department, in which position he remained until 2003. From 2003 to 2006 he worked as CEO and Investor Relations Director at CAEMI Mineração e Metalurgia, and Chairman and CEO of Minerações Brasileiras Reunidas (MBR).
As a result of his extensive experience and expertise in the fields of administration and finance, he has served on the Board of Directors of various major organizations in Brazil and abroad. These include Valia, the Vale employees’ pension fund (of which he was President), Centro-Atlântica Railroad (FCA), Samarco Mineração, Bandeirantes Railroad (FERROBAN), Aço Minas Gerais (AÇOMINAS), the Gulf Industrial Investment Corporation (GIIC) of Bahrain, Alumina do Norte do Brasil S.A. (ALUNORTE) and Alumínio do Brasil (ALBRAS). He has also served on the Advisory Council of ITABRASCO and HISPANOBRAS. He is the President of the Board of Directors of Mineração Rio do Norte S.A. (MRN).
Tito Martins has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and an MBA from IEAD at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has attended other executive education programs at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, USA, and INSEAD, France.
