Projects
Together with our partners we have established several exciting positions within solar energy. Our most important tasks in the coming years will be to develop the technology and achieve commercial production at the plants now being built.
Our most important projects are the following:
Hycore
A joint venture between Hydro and Umicore of Belgium for the production of solar-grade silicon for use in solar cells. Hycore is headquartered in Porsgrunn.
Ascent Solar
Hydro is part-owner of the solar energy company Ascent Solar, a producer of super-thin, flexible solar cell modules based in Colorado in the US.
NorSun
Hydro is also part-owner of NorSun, which will produce monocrystalline silicon wafers for the production of solar cells. The company has built a factory in Årdal, Norway, and has decided to establish plants in Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
Convexa
In 2008 Hydro invested NOK 50 million in Convexa, a Norwegian venture fond that concentrates on technology companies within solar energy. Convexa’s goal is to promote growth in the technology companies.
