The global need and consumption of high purity aluminium is steadily increasing.
Whether for electrolytic capacitor foils, the thin-film technology in the semiconductor and FPD/LCD industries, decorative use or for electronic storage systems, high purity aluminium is a necessity. Hydro’s High Purity plants supply proprietary aluminium products as input materials for this wide range of technical applications.
Meeting demanding requirements
In order to meet the demanding requirements of our customers all over the world, Hydro set up the High Purity Business Unit with manufacturing plants in Vennesla (Norway) and Grevenbroich (Germany) as well as a sales and technical support office in Tokyo (Japan). All three locations excel in competence resulting in reliability and defined quality needed to meet the extremely high demands of the market.

Top quality production
There are relatively few companies in the world, which have the competence and know-how to manufacture top quality high purity aluminium. It is not only necessary to remove or reduce the concentration of the main impurities and trace elements but also to reduce alpha emitters such as uranium and thorium to a predetermined level. But, depending on customer requirements, we also have the ability to alloy elements even in the ppm range.
We use the 3-layer electrolysis as well as the segregation (fractional crystallisation) technology to refine aluminium. Only by combining these two technologies we can reach the desired characteristics of the high purity aluminium required by the market.
Our plants cover the complete range of production processes:

- 4N and 5N segregation
- 4N and 5N continuous casting
- 4N and 5N static casting
- Slab and billet cutting
- Slab homogenisation
Using qualified subcontractors we can also offer a wide range of semi-finished products such as high purity aluminium plates.
